Goldwind Continues Surge in the Americas

Company enters WINDPOWER 2012 with multiple sales announcements and unveils 2.5MW turbine to US market

June 5, 2012: As Xinjiang Goldwind Science &Technology Co., Ltd. (Goldwind) prepares for its third appearance at the world’s largest wind industry tradeshow as an exhibitor at Windpower 2012 in Atlanta, the company is continuing its surge in international markets – particularly the Americas.

“Goldwind has made great strides since we participated in Windpower 2011 in Anaheim,” said Wu Gang, Chairman and CEO of Goldwind.  “Our international efforts have been bolstered with turbine deals in eleven US states, and throughout Latin AmericaWe owe much of that success to our Permanent Magnet Direct Drive turbines, which are among the most efficient and cost competitive turbines available today, and to our commitment to global expansion through localization.”

Goldwind’s recent success demonstrates a rapidly growing adaptation of permanent magnet direct drive (PMDD) technology by the global wind industry.  With an installed base of over 10GW of PMDD turbines on six continents, Goldwind is widely viewed as a global leader in the deployment of PMDD technology.  As the global industry moves to PMDD turbines, Goldwind is well positioned as the industry continues to realize the benefits of the highly reliable and cost efficient PMDD turbine.  To highlight the success of the PMDD machine, Goldwind displayed one of its 1.5MW nacelles at the tradeshow. One of the more original booth displays at the show, visitors to the booth lined up to take a tour through the nacelle.

Introducing the 2.5MW to the US Market

Goldwind recently signed a deal with All Earth Renewables in Vermont to supply the Georgia Mountain wind farm with four of its 2.5MW turbines, marking the first all-2.5MW project for Goldwind in the Americas.  While Goldwind installed three 2.5MW demonstration turbines at its Shady Oaks project in Illinois, the Georgia Mountain project will be the first to feature the company’s most advanced PMDD turbine in the Americas.  This locally owned, locally developed wind project is planned for 2012 construction on Georgia Mountain in northwestern Vermont and will supply energy to 4,200 Vermont households.

The 2.5MW turbine’s scale reduces capital and operational expenditure on a per-kW/h basis, reduces the parts-count per kW of capacity relative to geared machines, and continues to drive down the kW/h cost of renewable energy with its unsurpassed reliability.

As perhaps the most encouraging development for Goldwind in the United States, the Georgia Mountain deal is the most recent example of several Goldwind projects in the United States that were financed domestically- further signaling bankability in the US market. The Georgia Mountain project will be financed by Merchant’s Bank in Vermont.

Recent highlights of Goldwind’s success in the Americas:

-        288 MW of turbine sales and project acquisitions in the US, Chile and Ecuador
-        Goldwind became the 2nd largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world by 2011 global market share;
-        Secured repeat business in the Americas
-        Obtained finance from multiple local western banks
-        Reached 10GW of PMDD installations globally – more PMDD product than all other OEM’s combined
-        Installed two 3.0 PMDD prototypes as one of China’s first wind- solar energy storage project
-        Began the development of a 6MW offshore turbine, which is expected to be launched in 2012
-        Commenced development of 10.0 MW wind turbine

Goldwind USA CEO, Tim Rosenzweig cites the company’s commitment to innovation and localization as key components to its international success.  “When Goldwind made the decision to transition its fleet to the Permanent Magnet Direct Drive turbines a decade ago, it signaled to the industry that it understood innovation was the path to a more efficient turbine and industry,” said Rosenzweig.  “Coupled with our approach to localization, customers in the Americas have clearly accepted Goldwind as a serious international player. We’ve worked with reputable partners including the Enel Group and Mainstream Renewables among others, which demonstrates how far we’ve come in such a short time.”
