Title:                Service Engineer
Location:         Chicago, IL
Status:             Full-time/Exempt

Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Engineering, the Service Engineer serves as an interface between the product design engineers and the service team, supporting the technical needs of the service team and focusing on product and process improvement from a technical perspective. This position will play a part in the technical support training, and creating and improving all documents that support the Goldwind Americas Service Department.

Responsibilities/Duties include:

  • Lead technical Root Cause Analysis (RCA) initiatives and develop final associated documentation
  • When necessary assist other functions in completing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) suitable for that function’s needs
  • Investigate field problems, concerns or issues and develop design modifications and/or repairs for equipment defects/problems
  • Author/Manage Service Bulletins, Work Instruction, Checklist, and Retrofits for distribution to service team and customers
  • Monitor wind turbine plant performance metrics periodically through analysis and reporting as directed by management
  • Represent the company’s interests at critical new product design review meetings
  • Interface with service team members in pursuit of product improvement and process/procedure improvement ideas
  • Develop and/or edit and/or approve field repair procedures, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting procedures, and other procedures as required
  • Support or when necessary develop Quality related components of Goldwind Americas’ QEHS Integrated Management System (IMS) as needed to maintain ISO Certifications
  • Maintain a working knowledge and know where to access knowledge of Goldwind Americas’ QEHS Integrated Management Systems as necessary to complete their tasks

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather, climb ladders without assistance, and work at heights greater than 100 meters (330 feet)
  • Must be able to move and manipulate up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to comply of weight and health restrictions of fall protection equipment in our turbine and PPE program of a max 310 pounds’ total

Educations and Experience:

  • BSME or BSEE with 2 years’ active wind experience or Associate’s degree (e.g. Electrical Technology) with 5 years’ wind experience, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with Six Sigma or other data driven technical solution development methodology
  • Proficient in switchboard/panel schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system algorithms
  • Analytical skills in the operational application of new technologies as well as problem solving of existing technologies
  • Ability to work in a construction environment making use of established safety procedures and personal protective equipment
  • Ability to travel overnight domestically and internationally at least 20% of the time
  • Heavy electrical and mechanical skills required
  • Native English language ability along with Mandarin and Spanish language skills a plus
